Kalymnos Wedding

Are you planning a wedding in Greece away from the masses?  As a wedding celebrant in Greece I am lucky enough to have performed ceremonies in many different areas of Greece. Today, let’s talk about some of the less well known Islands that I travelled to last summer to for couples who celebrated their weddings off the beaten track in Greece.

Kalymnos intimate elopement Tim and Molli

The Island of Kalymnos is one of the most popular sport climbing destinations in the world. So it was the perfect choice for Tim and Molli. A couple who love climbing and exploring and the more remote the area,  the better!  They decided that they would plan their intimate beach elopement wedding on the Island of Kalymnos. Then they found Klara Stein https://www.klarastein.com/ an adventure photographer who spends her summers on the Island. She was the one who found a wonderful secluded beach for Tim and Molli’s romantic waters edge ceremony and then organised a climbing bridal photo shoot to follow. It was definitely one of the most adventurous off the beaten track weddings in Greece that I have ever been the celebrant for,  and I loved every minute of it!

Samos wedding Dimitri and Cara

Samos Wedding

Dimitri and Cara

In early June Dimitri and Cara travelled to the Island of Samos for their wedding. Dimitri’s family are from the Island so their ‘big fat Greek  wedding’ was definitely one to remember. With a mix of local family and guests from far and wide, the ceremony was in Greek and English. A rustic taverna just off the beach was the venue and it really was the perfect spot for this wedding. After Dimitri and Cara exchanged rings and vows, we had a sing along. ‘ The Wonder of you’ by the iconic Elvis Presley. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Dinner to celebrate followed with an array of amazing Greek flavours. Samos at its best, what a beautiful Island!

Leros wedding Leon and Rhonda

Leros Wedding

Leon and Rhonda

Leon and Rhonda’s July wedding on the lesser known Island of Leros, just outside the picturesque church of Agios Isideros was a family affair. With guests from all over Greece and other guests who flew in from all over the world, the ceremony was a mix of traditions. We celebrated the coming together of a new family with the reading ‘I love my family so much’ by Filoi Hemopo

The Island of Leros is known for its deep bays, pine forests and beautiful beaches. Could Leros be the choice for your wedding in Greece?

My 3 top tips

If you are planning to arrange your own wedding off the beaten track in Greece then here are my 3 top tips on how to get started.

1 Plan a *symbolic ceremony. This means no venue restrictions, no time limits and no boring generic ceremony.

2 Find a celebrant who will help you create the perfect ceremony for your perfect day off the beaten track in Greece.

3 Choose a local photographer who can give you plenty of local advice for your special day.

*Symbolic means that no legal paperwork is required in Greece. Most couples choosing a symbolic ceremony in Greece will have a legal civil marriage in their own country before travelling to Greece.

As a wedding celebrant in Greece every ceremony is written especially for every couple. Your ceremony can be traditional and classic or it can be surprisingly out of the box too. It is your day and your choice. And there is nothing I love more than a wedding off the beaten track in Greece! Why are celebrant led symbolic wedding ceremonies trending in Greece?
