As a celebrant I am often asked to create a special ceremony for couples who have chosen to renew their wedding vows on the Island of Rhodes. So here is a little look back at summer 2023.

Samantha and Stephen celebrated 10 years of marriage by renewing their wedding vows in Rhodes at their holiday villa in Kiotari. It was important for them to include their children in the ceremony. We included a family sand blending ceremony. A charming addition to this special ceremony was the addition of the olive crowns. Little Noah placed the crowns on Mum and Dad’s heads during the ceremony.

David and Lois chose their favourite area of Rhodes to renew their wedding vows. To celebrate 10 years of marriage, they tied the knot with a handfasting. Every ribbon was a different colour. And yes, there were 10 to celebrate the ten years. The ceremony took place just as the sun was setting.
We included some words from AA Milne’s classic tale Winnie the Pooh ‘If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.’
Matthew and Charlene Atrium Palace hotel
A very special vow renewal ceremony at the Atrium Palace hotel in the area of Kalathos
Matt and Charlene travelled from Ireland to Rhodes with an intimate group of family and friends to celebrate their 10 years of marriage with a vow renewal ceremony in the hotel gardens of the Atrium Palace hotel.
A few words from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres were perfect for this special couple.
‘Those that truly love, have roots that grow together underground and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from the branches, they find that they are one tree and not two. Love is important and you should love each other the most.’
And exciting news, Matt’s Dad Matt has been in touch and we are working on his 40 year vow renewal ceremony which will take place at the Atrium Palace hotel in August 2024.

A joint vow renewal ceremony at the Aegean View Estate in the area of Ladiko
Tim and Corry and Chris and Amy were visiting Greece from the USA. They came to Rhodes to renew their wedding vows and shared a truly special joint ceremony at the stunning Aegean View Estate outside the chapel. They celebrated with dinner in the garden, cooked by a private chef.
During the ceremony each couple warmed the rings of the other. Tim and Corry placed Greek olive crowns on Chris and Amy’s heads to celebrate their lifelong bond as a couple. Two wonderful couples each with an amazing story to tell, two mini vow renewal ceremonies connected together as one. I called it double the love!
Craig and Amanda Ixian Grand hotel
An intimate renewal of vows at the Ixian Grand Hotel in the area of Ialysos
Craig and Amanda celebrated more than 2 decades of marriage with an intimate ceremony in the gardens of their hotel the Ixian Grand in Ialysos. They collected sand off the beach in Rhodes and we blended the sands at the ceremony. They chose a hand tying ceremony using baby pink and blue cords. The colour blue symbolic of trust and loyalty and the colour pink symbolic of love and romance, all qualities of a good marriage.

A surprise renewal of vows, on the beach of Kato Petres in Rhodes town
Blake and Michelle were enjoying a cruise and it was Blake who reached out to surprise his wife Michelle, with a special vow renewal ceremony on the beach during their short visit to the port of Rhodes. The ceremony was also to celebrate Michelle’s Greek heritage.
Kato Petres beach is a short drive from the Port of Rhodes, and its main advantage is no sunbeds! It is the perfect spot for a ceremony and does have amazing sunset views, definitely Insta worthy. Blake and Michelle tied the knot and blended the sands.
This extract from a poem with an unknown author fitted so well ‘This love will be unchanging, dependable like the tides. Waters nourish the earth and sustain life, so too may your constant devotion nourish and sustain one another. Till the end of time.’
My top tips on renewing your wedding vows on the Island of Rhodes
Plan your vow renewal ceremony in Rhodes during the summer months of May until October.
Have a late afternoon ceremony if you are planning to have your ceremony in July or August on the Island of Rhodes. The temperatures can be extreme so around 17.00 or later will be the perfect time of day.
Book a local photographer to capture your special vow renewal ceremony in Rhodes
A videographer will ensure that you will have unforgettable memories of your special day.
A musician or local singer will add to the atmosphere
